The Millicent Martinez Kondracke Scholarship

People Protecting Animals and Their Habitats (PATH) is honored to establish a scholarship fund in honor of PATH board member Andrea Kondracke’s late mother. The Millicent Martinez Kondracke scholarship will provide talented, socially committed young women the opportunity to attend veterinary school at Universidad de Ciecias Comerciales in Managua, Nicaragua. The scholarships will be awarded to animal loving and environmentally aware young women who lack the financial resources to attend college. Mrs. Kondracke, grew up in poverty and was the first in her family to graduate from college. She went on to become an accomplished psychotherapist and social activist.

Millicent KondrackeMillicent Kondracke’s great companion was her dog, Maddy. Andrea remembers that Maddy slept on the pillows of her parents bed. “My mother loved that dog.” And Maddy loved Milly. In the last months of her life Milly was no longer able to care for Maddy, so Maddy went to stay with Jenny, a family friend. And just before Milly died, Maddy too became ill. They died on the same day. Jenny later commented, “It was as if Maddy knew.”

Millicent's daughter, Alexandra Kondracke remembers, “My mom wanted nothing more than to help young people achieve their potential. And this scholarship will not only change the lives of young women but will also create young vets who can in turn improve the lives of animals. It’s something my mother would have believed in.”

All (100%) contributions to the scholarship fund go directly toward providing tuition payments for selected students. Use the following secure link to make a tax-deductible contribution using a credit card.
