Hello friends,

PATH’s humane education cartoons are completed and will run in Managua’s La Hoy newspaper in the coming weeks. These cartoons will be included in the paper on a weekly basis through October. The cartoons will be printed on heavy stock and easily detachable. These cartoons will be the first exposure to basic animal care and protection information for most children in Nicaragua.

The cartoons will soon be available for download on PATH’s web site. PATH encourages anyone and everyone to reproduce the cartoons – as long as they are provided to children at no cost. PATH thanks Enrique Rimbaud and Gabriella Rivera for their great work on this project in Nicaragua – as well as our board members Felix Maradiaga and Makeeba McCreary for their input from Boston.

Ms. Vilma Mairena has been awarded the Millicent Martinez Kondracke scholarship; the scholarship provides talented, socially committed young women the opportunity to attend veterinary or veterinary technician school at Universidad de Ciecias Comerciales (UCC) in Managua, Nicaragua. Ms. Mairena has chosen to enroll in UCC’s veterinary technician program. The Millicent Martinez Kondracke Scholarships are a sustainable approach to addressing the lack of trained veterinary professionals in Nicaragua – for just over $150 a month all costs are paid for an animal loving young woman (who otherwise lacks the financial resources) to attend college.

The number of animals we help is limited by available resources. In other words, the greater our resources, the more animals we can help. PATH needs your continued financial support. We need donations of airline frequent flyer miles. We need veterinarians to donate equipment and supplies that they can do without. Please consider helping us bring comfort and love to suffering animals. PATH administrative staff receive no compensation – with the exception of local Nicaraguan employees, PATH is an all-volunteer 501 (c) 3 tax-exempt organization.
